Certified Online BBQ Judge (COBJ) Program

Hello CBJ's/OBJ's! Thank you for your interest in taking the BBQ Critic COBJ training program. This free course will focus on helping you focus more as a CBJ in the judging tent. The COBJ training is intended to be a fun, yet serious extracurricular activity recommended for both new and seasoned CBJ's from any sanctioned group.

The COBJ course will amplify the BBQ Critic PIG motto:

PRACTICE
INTERACT
GROW

Pre-Registration Requirements:

1) You must be signed up as a BBQ Critic Online Judge. If you have not done this, do it now. CLICK HERE

2) Particiation will be dependent on the number of boxes you have judged on BBQ Critic, so judge as many as you can starting now. You must not only just score the box, but you MUST include a REASON for every score or your post will not count. SUGGESTIONS are optional. Keep a typed record of the Meat/Box #'s you score that you can cut and paste them into the COURSE COMPLETION form when you near the end of the course.

3) All COBJ participants judging comments will be REQUIRED TO USE THIS FORMAT:

EXAMPLE to use when  typing out your score in the Judge My Box  Section:

Score/Reason: 9, meat looks moist
and not over-sauced. Slices were cut just right!

Suggestions:  Your garnish looks great and frames the meat nicely. You may
want to put less garnish in the box, though.

Go online and see a perfect example from Tom - CBJ w/ KCBS, MBN, NCPC & comp  cook: http://www.bbqcritic.com/17/post/2013/04/ribs-box-161.html

This format separates the reason you scored the box a 9. If you had lumped your garnish comments together with your reasons, readers (cooks) would think you  were judging garnish. We follow KCBS rules and only judge the MEAT (except for  illegal garnish). If this format is not followed, your scores will not count  toward your COBJ certification. So DO NOT forget to follow this format.  BEGIN NOW as we go forward. (NOTE: For those of you who have been judging a long time on BBQ Critic, we still use your past posts to qualify regardless of the format you used. However, this point forward - FORMAT MUST BE USED. When BBQ Critic converts to a database driven site, this will be formatted for you automatically, but for now - please type it out.

4) More info coming soon on what you get for completing the course. Pre-Register now and start judging like you never have before.

Once you pre-register, all boxes you score from this point forward will count toward your requirement needed to take the final online test and pass the course. So sign up below and start judging! :-)
