Score 9 Good meaty slab and I like the smallest 7th rib displayed, that was a good hook.

Hedged on an 8 here as these might be a little dark. They look pretty darned good though.

9. Not a big fan of the rib placement here, but the cook did the best with what he had. The ribs themselves look mighty good!

LooKs very appetizing to me. Would score it a 9.

Ribs need to be closer to the same size. The one is front is so much smaller it looks out of place

Score: 9
Could be just a touch oversauced, but no deduct cause it could also be the lighting of the photo. Darn, those are some good lookin' ribs!

9. I prefer spares, but these BBs look inviting. Bark looks a little heavy, but I'll chalk that up to the lighting.

Solid 8.

Outstanding looking ribs. Nice uniformity on the selection of ribs. The color is leaning a little too dark for me. it looks like there is a little bit too much sauce. Specially right in the center of the ribs. But, these ribs don't miss excellent by much. I'd give this box an 8.

Nice rack of baby backs. Evenly sauced. Good color. Like the fact you can see the meat on the front rib. Another..... 9

Score 9. I hope I don't see any judges score this enty down due to the size of these ribs. Let's be fair judges these ribs were all cut from the same slab. A good job by this cook.

9 - Between an 8 to 9, because it has a bit more sauce than I would like to see, but would not hesitate to give this a 9.

9 - Ribs don't have to be exactly alike. These are meaty, have great color, and I want the whole box. Well done to this team!!!

I give the box a 7.

Ahh look at the purdy little baby rib that lost it's family!!

Ribs look good, but a little heavy on the sauce and do you really think that minnie me rib helps?

Yes - I can see the side of a cut finally! And am very happy with what I see - the whole presentation makes me salivate

8 - nice looking back ribs. Perhaps a better one could have been used for the one on its side.

The layout is good and the ribs look excellent individually; however, the size difference between the large rib on the left and the tiny one on the bottom detracts from the box being excellent as a whole.

Perhaps a 9, I'm going back and forth. Pic is a little tough to tell. Looks very good. Perhaps a tad dark, but could be the pic. Perhaps a bit gloppy on the sauce, again could be the pic. The sideways bone on the bottom intended to sell the smoke ring is actually taking away from the overall appeal of the meat. Ok, it's an 8.

Another 9. Crazy good looking ribs at this contest!!

7-8 - The ribs on the left look a bit charred and the ribs are uneven (probably on purpose) and the little riblet in front is a bit curious. I suppose it was put in there to show the side of the ribs.

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
