BBQ CRITIC APPROVED: Smokehouse72 - Sweet & Savory Rub

2/12/2023

When I heard all the buzz going around the Iowa BBQ community about Smokehouse 72's new SWEET & SAVORY rub, I had to try it. After careful review, this product is BBQ CRITIC APPROVED!

APPEARANCE & TASTE

The first thing I like to do with a new rub is open the container and sprinkle some in the palm of my hand to check out the appearance and taste. What caught my eye immediately was the texture. Instead of fine or medium size granules, SWEET & SAVORY has a course texture. I love that! It goes great with this flavor profile, too.

I see why SMOKEHOUSE 72 named this SWEET & SAVORY. That's exactly what you taste when you take a sample right out of the container. Very pleasant to the taste buds.  It is, indeed, sweet and savory.

THE TEST COOK

I took a pork butt and layered on some SMOKEHOUSE 72's SWEET & SAVORY rub and let it set for about 20 minutes. It pulled the juices right to the top and looked beautiful.

My GMG Trek Prime smoked this butt for about 4 hours or so and the final product was delicious! The rub complimented the pulled pork with a very SWEET & SAVORY flavor throughout.

Kyle Johnson, (T-REX BBQ and "Memphis in May" 2022 World Turkey Smoke Champion) used SMOKEHOUSE 72's Sweet & Savory rub on his alligator cook at a summer BBQ party.

A very universal rub, indeed!

FINAL THOUGHTS

Brothers Ray and Jay Ringgenberg (SMOKEHOUSE 72) came up with a universal product that is great for a competition BBQ cook to use on pork, chicken or beef. It's also great for the everyday backyard cook to use on meats, veggies and other foods.

Congratulations to SMOKEHOUSE 72 for a very fine rub. I mean a very course rub packed with a SWEET & SAVORY flavor that will appeal to anyone who loves to find that one rub they can use for just about anything. Nice job SMOKEHOUSE 72!
