8 - This is a really nice looking box. I would have given it a 9 but for the ragged edges in several places. If this team is not using an electric knife to make these slices, I strongly suggest they do so. An electrci knife usually makes a much cleaner edge cut than slicing by hand.

8 - Nice color however, the splotchy sauce and uneven spacing...maybe a 7 in person.

Score 8. Great looking ribs. I would just like to see cleaner cuts as the ragged edges distract from this entry.

8--even with terrible knife cuts I want these ribs!

Overall nice looking box, although the unevenly cut ribs tends it

9. These BBs look meaty and succulent. Suggestion - neaten up the slicing.

Light sauce. Good color. Knifemanship leaves a lot to be desired. The ragged, uneven cuts make for a bad appearence score......6

Nice looking ribs. Would like to be able to see them from the side, but from what I can see, this box is an 8.

7 not cleanly cut, each rib looks different

A 7. Nice color, look moist but very jagged cuts and layout.

9,looks dang good to me.

7 ribs looked to be separated with a dull knife. edges uneven. uneven sheen on meat. doesn't appear to be sauced but could have evened the sheen with something for a better look. i debated between 7 or 8 but chose 7 because the presentation just doesn't look that good.

Thank you for not glopping sauce all over your ribs. The color and texture are excellent! However it looks like you cut them with an axe

8 - Nice box but lacks clean defining knife cut on edges of ribs

9 - I've given 9s on ribs like this before only to be bitten on flavor and tenderness but there's no way around it -- these look excellent. A little bit jagged on the bark cuts in a few spots but not enough to knock it down to 8.

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.
The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.
In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).
Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.
Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.
Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
