Score: 7

Box looks nice. Wish the ribs were more uniform in size. Also looks like the ribs may have a touch to much sauce but it could be the glare from the pic. So this could very possible be an 8 if I was there in person.

6 maybe 7 if seen in person
Rib on the far right is tiny compared to the others. these just look pretty average

I would give it a 9 if the ribs were more uniform in size. The poor judge on the end of the table is gonna get a little stub.

I'd give it a 7. I would like to see all ribs to be equal in size.

Main reason for not a 9 is the unequal portion size - I don't want to get that little baby on the right. Additional the color is off, but as lots of pictures it could just be the light

s/r 9,it cant get much better, i would pay $ for these ribs.

CBJ.KCBS & SCBA - Score 7 - Sauce unevenly applied. Meat lacks a wow factor but do like the color of the rib. Not that this comment applied to the score but is this a "normal" KCBS turn in box? It appears to be a different shape than most.

score 8
reason, uneven cuts and end rib does not look good, a little to much sauce, would like to taste them

The ribs are not uniform in size going left to right from large to tiny. They are painted in sauce making it difficult to get a good look. Still they don't look bad or unappetizing. I'd definitely like to try one.

My suggestions would include much less sauce, a more uniform size on the ribs when cutting and perhaps turning the ribs where we can get a look at both the outside AND the inside. We want to be able to know more about the meat from looking at it and I might be able to go an 8 on appearance if I can see it.

7--uneven sauce, brush strokes, there are no open ends to see the quality of the meat,

9 - Makes me want to taste!!! Sorry for judge#6 getting the small rib!!!

7. Looks over-sauced, brush strokes in the sauce, cuts don't look clean and straight, far right rib significantly smaller than far left rib, no real "pop" to this box. A little better than average.

cbj/comp cook, 8 would be a 9 from me if the ribs were a little more uniform in size.looks delicious.

Score 8. These ribs look excellent with a nice judges cut. The score would proabaly be a nine if I could see the side of the rib. My suggestion to this cook would be to place at least one rib on it's side which would also give more room to the box and not make it look so crowded and "paint" a little less sauce on the ribs. A sure nine next time.

looks like it light me from the end of the rack? Bones on the left seem substantially larger than the far right. Good color, moisture and sauce.

Looks good enough to jump in and consume.

Would be nice if the last rib on the right was a tad bigger, but not exuse to mark it down.
Dark Color, likely due to wood type used. nice
Brush marks.. don't care. Nothing to mark down about.

Nice shine. Saucing is OK but not great.

Cuts could be cleaner. Looks a bit too charred...might taste good but takes away from presentation.

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
