8 The sauce looks spotty in places

9 - Very pretty, looks moist and tender. Very uniform. Would love to see some burnt ends (but I won't count off for a lack of them).

realy close, saucing a little inconsistant and trim especially on the right a little ragged.

Very nice box Pieces look tender and juicey the grainey appearance of the lower piece might indicate it is over cooked. Nicely arranged and cut. 9

Box looks pretty good except for the slices in the back aren't uniform with the rest but I would probally go at least 8 on this one...

Score 9 Looks well cooked with enough meat for the table captain and volunteers. Color good and doesn't' appear to be dry.

8. The is a very nice box. I would have given this a 9 but for the little thread-tags on the right end of almost every slice. They should have been snipped off.

cbj/comp cook, 9 I dont usually score brisket 9's without burnt ends but this looks real nice in my opinion.

Score: 8 - Brisket is uniformly sliced and placed in the box very well, color is a little lite for my taste but not bad, meat looks a little dry but has been sauced a little. Nice looking box.

Pretty average looking for a comp box (which is above average for brisket overall). Looks rather dry. I like a darker bark. Slices look a bit thick. If you left off the first slice the garnish framing would look more even all the way around.

8 or 9 - The garnish could have been more symmetrical, but that's the only distraction. Otherwise, the meat looks appetizing and cooked well. Nice box!

9 - Great looking box. Most of us are spoiled and expect burnt ends. Not required though....

7. The front 3 slices look like they were from a different brisket than the back slices. There is a significant size difference. Looks like a decent box of brisket, above average.

Very well presented; meat looks so good it's making my mouth water! Keep up the good work! :)

8 nice solid box. I would prefer a bit darker bark and I don't understand why everyone wants to overstuff their boxes. I get adding some in case of a hanger but too many pieces can hurt presentation.

Nice presentation in the box. I took off point because the left side looks sauced and the right side looks dry.

VERY nice. The ends on the right sliced inward take away from the appeal. Next time perhaps set it up on a cutting board and slice them all the same. Doesnt have to have perfect symmetry, but this is enough to take away from the appealing nature.

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
