KCBS
cant judge it with such a pink tint to the pic.
Interesting hunks of meat there.??
Looks yummy for the most part... is there only 4 super large chunks on the left side??

This would be a big 9 if there were enough samples. There are only 4 each of the big slices and the burnt end nuggets.
This stuff sure looks great though. I would really like to try this. It looks perfectly done.
certainly not a great picture

8 - meat looks good. I'd be awefully pissed if I was the Judge that didn't get one of those chucnks or a piece of Money Muscle. Make sure you have 6 of each next time.

Score 8

Great selection of cuts and all pieces "seem" to look moist, but it's hard to tell because of the bad pic.

If you want accurate judging get rid of the polaroid camera and get a digital.

Score 6. This box is trouble with a capital T. I will assume the white object is from the flash otherwise if it is a foreign object (?) this is a DQ. The cook only placing four pieces of the meat into the box makes judges select or take what is left over and I believe this will cost them lower scores. The left row of pork is covered with a dark end thereby hiding the pork slices and makes me wonder why the meat has been hidden, overcooked? poor quality meat? or whatever. The garnish is two color, poorly placed into the box and has small objects mixed into it. This box really does not have much going for it.

6- Average

Just a mess. Uneven. Splotchy.

6 - Average, doesn't look very well thought out. Maybe it's just a photographic issue, but what is the big white blob on the upper left? Only 4 pieces in the center row. Meat does look juicy and not over sauced.

I don't see 6 distinct samples here, meaning 6 of each type of cut. What if the first 4 judges choose a sample from the left... there's none left for judges 5 & 6.

I'm not saying this box breaks the rule of "6 sample" - but there's aren't 6 equal samples.

Additionally the color looks very poor - but it could be the camera

Somewhere between a 7 and a 9, too tough to tell using this photo...

Lets see how many count and grade down or want a DQ because it only has 4 pieces of one type, and only 4 pieces of another... WRONG. That's not how the rules read. As long as there's 6 pieces (total), it's all good.

From what I can tell, this looks like a fairly nice box of meat. The meat seems to have a nice color on the bark and a pleasant display of the meat. The photo is really tough to tell.

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
