6 - I had to look several times to see the 6th slice. Oversauced, sloppy arrangement, and not really an appetizing box.

Score 7. The off color of the gravy that appears to be just poured over the brisket, the amount of sliced brisket, and the apparent lack of care assembling the box does not allow me to give this any higher score.

EARTHQUAKE! What a disaster. Bad color. Way over sauced .Uneven sauce.Meat put in box without any rhyme nor reseasoning. Overall one of the worse box I have judged. 4

not appealing at all. The meat is overly glazed and happhazard placement does it in. Try to make your slices fit the width of the box and place your chunks/burnt ends only on one side of the slices.

This is our brisket box from a practice cook, I believe. It was a Wagyu and it looks as bad as it was. The brisket was under cooked, not pull apart. The burnt ends were terrible, not burnt ends, actually. They were cut-up pieces of undercooked fatty fat. :)

This brisket box does not look appetizing to me at all. The burnt ends have no bark and look like they were not placed very carefully. The is also no uniformity in the size of the burnt ends. So, again it looks like no care was taken in cutting them. The sauce is uneven on everything. I'd give this box a 6.

Oh my God, someone spilled brown gravy all over your brisket entry!!
Sauce should be dipped or brushed lightly. Burnt ends don't really look like cut up pieces of crusty brisket point.
Kinda reminds me of a pot roast supper with salad included.
Keep trying my friend, use pics here on BBQ Critic as guidlines.

6. Bad picture. The burnt ends don't look like burnt ends. Too much "gravy" disguises the meat.

    SCORE/REASONS FOR SCORE: Score this entry and give reasons for your score. DO NOT mention garnish or smoke rings in your reasons for scoring. We judge meat only.

    SUGGESTIONS: Feel free to offer any suggestions on how to improve the box (keep separate from reasons why you scored the box). You can mention anything here such as garnish suggestions.

    Purpose

    The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

    The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

    In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

    Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

    Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.
