8 nice box, good cuts

Could have used a row of burnt ends on the lower edge

9 Very nice look, color and moisture seem right on, my bet is that texture, tenderness if just right. (You had to be there.)

9!! This is a very good looking box of brisket! Nice slices and arrangement and just enough juice to make it shine.

Score 9. Reasons: Meat color is excellent. Nice balance to the box. The garnish very nicely frames the meat. The meat is not covered by sauce and still looks moist.

Score/Reasons = 7 does not look too appetizing. Smoke ring looks good, but meat looks fatty and gray

Suggestions/Comments =cut off the layer of fat on the bottom of brisket, before serving it.

Score/Reason: 9 I would anticipate a very moist and flavorful bite based on the appearance of this box.

Suggestions: Obviously, a great deal of care was taken in assembling this box and it shows. Keep doing what you're doing- nice job!

Nice full box of well cooked and sliced brisket. Presentation of slices is orderly and has a nice sheen indicating it won't be dry.
While this box does not scream "EAT ME" I can't find a reason to mark it down any.
So here's your excellent 9.

Score/Reason: I would score this box a 9. Meat looks moist and presentation looks great!

Suggestion: It would look a little more appealing if the fat was trimmed off the bottom of the front piece.

Score: 9 Great looking box. The meat looks juicy and its well laid out. The only critique would be that the bark is a bit light and thats being pretty darn picky

Score/Reasons = 8, looks moist and pretty good

Suggestions/Comments = This is VERY typical of what we see at the judge's table. Something to make this box "POP" would be helpful.

Score / Reasons = 8, The box is OK, nothing spectacular.

Suggestion / Comment = The meat is place in the box the same a all others. Try changing up the placement of the meat in the box.

You must be a "registered" BBQ Critic Online Judge in order to judge boxes on this site. Proof of registration is your email. All registered judges are required add their email to the email form field. Emails are kept private and not published. If you do not list your email, your score/post will not appear on the site.

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
