Looks great, I'd give it a 9.

8 (Very Good) Not neat and organized and popping enough for a 9 but very good

Score: 9 - Very nice looking box. While the color is tinted (due to the photo), the slices and pieces are very well done and placement is excellent. Meat looks juicy and inviting. Very nice box.

only thing missing is the aroma.
I dont care if the table capt is going to miss the ends.
Natural looking but also juicy
The longer you look the more tender it gets.

Beautiful box of brisket. 9

I'd like to see some bark and of course some fat and I'd like the burnt ends to be a little more burnt, but this looks excellent for KCBS brisket. i'd certainly like to try it

I can't wait. Looks nice, no sauce on that meat necessary.

7 - above average. Burnt ends are not uniform in size or shape. Slices look like they have a wavy surface to them like they weren't cut clean and straight. No real wow factor to this box.

Score: 8

Its just missing something to be a 9 or it could just be the pic. Nice solid presentation you go going on. Love the layout.

Suggestion: I think you have a touch to much garnish. Top right corner its budding out to much and is trying to over take your meat a bit.

seven---maybe eight--a 'neat' presentation but has that pot roast color

8--- Nice box but left piece of money muscle is very small and a little light on bark for me but I would definitely want to try some of this!

Noel - Brisket does not have Money Muscle. You find that on pork. ;-)

8 - Very Good

Very nice looking slices, neat in box and appetizing.

Mis-sized ends, ends not "burnt" enough.

Garnish can be toned down a little.

I am not judging the garnish, but there is too much of it IMHO.

Bill CBJ KCBS

8 it looks like you had to saw to cut those back slices and they appear uneven, other than that it looks very good

Looks pretty good and moist, but missing a WOW factor for me.
Burnt ends should look more "burnt" to me and the meat looks nestled down into the garnish instead of the garnish being a platform to help the meat look better.

Jean KCBS CBJ

The slices are beautiful... the burnt ends (if that is what they are) don't have a good bark color.... I would give this an 8; if you took out the chunk/s burnt ends, it would by a 9 for me!

Average. Not an especially exciting display. Little bark.

7 - See below.

The garnish takes over seeing the meat.

We just completed judging the KCBS Sam's Club Regional Qualifier in Ocala, Fl. today.

Shame I won't judge in Bentonville......You are in for a treet!!!

6, 7 at the highest; when I first looked at it, I couldn't tell what I was looking at. When I was able to distinguish that there were slices in the box, I could only see the top. The burnt ends were hiding the meat and the garnish was overwhelming. It's a shame because it could be very good brisket, but I just can't tell.

Too much green in box. That catches my eye before the meat,
Not enough bark on burn ends or meat.
6-7 can't be certain in picture

score 8, looks a little dry, more sauce is needed.

Score: 9
Looks really moist and flavorful.

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
