Score: 8 - Brisket slices look good, burnt ends look better. Placement in the box is a little off, burnt ends aren't lined up, slices are a bit different but still look tastey. Nice box.

I guess.
Could be an easy 9 in person but what a horrible picture. It won't enlarge either. Anyway, from what I can discern, it seems to have good bark which is great as most KCBS brisket is way overtrimmed.
The burnt ends look good. really wish we had a better photo. This stuff might look awesome. Would really like to know the scores of this box.
There are 8 burnt ends and 7 slices so the table captain will get to try some too which is nice.

BBQ editor: Why will some of the box pictures not enlarge? This one gets smaller when ya click on it.

eight--maybe a better pic is all it would take to raise the score
looks very good

Score 8. Not a good picture to judge from.

7 to 8, needs a little better lighting for me to call it an eight. looks appetizing.

I'd give it a 7. The picture is somewhat blurry but they look kinda dry.

Score: 8
The photo is very poor and grainy, but the meat still manages to shine through. Not spectacular, but very nice just the same.

9 Nice box. Only suggestion would be to try and align the burnt ends a bit more. They look a bit haphazardly placed.

Layout is nice but not special and just a little hap-hazard with the chunks. Slices look nice and natural plus bark looks good. Benefit of the doubt given due to lighting issues.

Perhaps a better layout could boost score.

That looks like it could be a great box however, the picture is too fuzzy.

the photo or the meat is to dark to judge fairly.

Score: 9

Likes nice and love the layout. Love it when I get to try a slice and a burnt end.

Suggestions/Comment: Nice color on the meat. I know I am just nit picking now but garnish on top right corner looks thick and then top left corner its not. Side right is thicker than left side. Just be careful and try to make sure its even all the way around. Garnish does look fresh though.

Burnt ends really look good. Slices look like I need to try one!

The pic is a little blurry, but the meat looks good. I would score the box a 9.

8 or 9, the burnt ends look they they were thrown in at the end, line them up and this looks like a solid 9, looks very good

Crappy picture, but from what I can see it looks pretty good. I like that presentation.

Score 7

The meat looks appetizing and I would like to taste the Burt ends. If the slices where cut at more even lengths, I think I would have scored an 8.

Again too dark (3 pics today too dark and all of it presentend beautifully - same cook?). This brisket is cut nicely and presented in a very appealing manner. It's dark but there looks to be some nice bark on those slices and the ends up front have me wanting to dive in right now. This is an excellent looking container of meat.

8 = Very Good....in person may have been a 9 as the pic is not clear

7-8. Picture is out of focus, so I can't adequately give a firm score. What I can see would probably be a 7 or 8.

8 - Meat looks great! Nice smoke ring; burnt ends look appetizing; it's hard to tell if the meat is dry or not, but it looks like it could be. Can't tell if it's the lighting or the meat.

The only thing I saw that could be improved is the placement of the meat in the box. It's not square, which might be a result of carrying it.

That's some nice looking brisket! Those burnt end chunks are the biggest I've seen and I'd wonder how tender they were if I was looking at this box. Very nicely put together. A nine.

8 - size of slices is pretty uniform, color looks good, appears to be moist; burnt ends need a little more color, good size; could be the picture...

beef looks good possibly dry
7 burnt ends need some work

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
