I like how it is sitting, but the meat appears very dry with odd cut marks and the chunks are uneven.

7 maybe 6
Overtrimmed spam can stuff. There is some bark so it might have some flavor. The "burnt ends" do not appear to be true ones. They jus tlook like cubes of meat that have some bark and got cooked extra.
At competition last weekend, 4 of 5 teams "burnt ends" that I judged were not the real thing. Aggravating

Looks like it might be dry, maybe in person this wouldn't be so.

Looks dry to me

6, maybe, the meat appears overdone and looks like it was cut on a band saw. From the picture it just appears to be dry and dark, just not very appealing. Sorry

My first thought is everything looks dry. The next thing that sticks out is the marks on the side of the slices...serration marks from the knife? Bark looks really good and the color of the slices is very nice.

Maybe a little bath in some jus or a spritz of liquid would help the appearance?

7 just not sure.. it looks dry and leathery. I dont like the ends trimmed like that. Is that what an electric knife looks like? not the best pic but not the best look either.

7--box is nice and neat and devoid of any "zing"--no real appeal--plus the knife marks are distracting

Nice! 9

Nice uniformity on the slices and burnt ends. Try to make the spacing even between the burnt ends. Also the slices look a little dry to me in this picture. I'd give this box a 7 just because the meat looks dry in this picture.

nice looking box. A little sauce/glaze would take it up IMHO.

Burnt ends look very dry and over cooked, texture of the slices look under done why would and serious team enter meat cut with an electric knife? 6

8 - Looks dry. O/W a 9. Just an observation-- Those are strange cut marks.

Josh KCBS CBJ

7 - That serrated look just doesn't seem right to me.

8. Everything looks real good about this box, but the cuts are not smooth. That wavy look to the faces of the slices is very distracting.

Score: 7 - Meat slices and burnt ends are arranged well, color is dark and overall, the meat looks dry.

8- brisket is uniform in size, nice color, but there are knife/saw marks in the meat... burnt ends look good.

DRY! DRY! DRY! I like the layout, but can't get by the dry appearance on first look. I'm not a fan of the serated look of the slices either.

Score: 6

Looks to be way over cooked. Bark is charred and meat looks dry.

7 - I would want to send the cook a clear message to leave the ridges to potato chips. Might have been an 8 without them. Might have been a 9 if you lined up the ends evenly and had the grain running the same direction.

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
