Not perfect, but these legs look dadgum appetizing! Nice change from the "usual" thighs we see!

eight--good looking box--maybe color too uneven

9 looks great to me. I am ignoring the color because I think it is dude to photograph.

Score: 9 - Looks like a perfect mix of smoke and sauce -- perhaps some of the finest looking drumsticks I've ever seen.

Suggestions: None

Although the chicken looks good, not a fan of the layout of the box 7

9 - Beautiful presentation, neatly space with good symmetry. The color is excellent. Would like to sample for taste and tenderness.

Good looking chicken. The top right is a little ragged but still looks good

9 Very nice selection, arrangement, color, and sauce just right. How pleasant to see something different from thighs.

9......Nice color. Good even glaze. Presentation is layed out nicely.

Only possible negative might be the lack of skin on the top part of the leg.

Score = 8: Nice looking chicken legs. The only negative I see is the leg on the bottom left has a dark spot showing where it might be burnt.

9 - Great color and every piece is uniform in color and size.

9 - Excellent! Chicken looks moist, great color, and not too heavy on the sauce. Nice work!

These chicken legs look great! Definitely a 9!

Comment: good job trying something other than thighs.

9! Very nice arrangement. Even size, spacing and color. Look moist.

Score: 7-8
Comments: Solid looking chicken. Skin shrunk on you, that doesn't look good. No wow factor. Just looks like tasty chicken.

8.... great color, needs a little trimming around the lower end by the knuckle. would look better with parsley but we don't judge that

I would give this chicken a 9. It has great color and looks very appitizing. One suggestion would be to make sure your garnish is not hiding the beauty of your product.

7 - I like the concept, but the execution seems a bit rough to me. The meat seems too charred in places and the knobby ends detract from the appearance.

very well done box. Hope they taste as good as they look.

Robert Smith

score of 6. The 4 of the legs appear to be over cooked, with the bootom of the legs chared

Dick-MCBJ/CTC
3/27/2013 02:48:48 pm

Score 9. I really like the "out of the box" look of the legs instead of the standard same old thighs. The color is excellent and these legs look to be cooked perfectly. I also appreciate the fact that the cook did not "coat" the legs in BBQ sauce which seem to be the new standard with other pieces of chicken. I would suggest that parsley instead of lettuce would allow the chicken to stand out more and in my opinion make this entry look slightly neater.

Score/Comments: 9/Nice color, not too much sauce; appetizing!

Recommendations: Be careful that the garnish does not hide the meat.

Again, I don't mind a little char. Skin looks shrunk up a good bit and the top right piece looks like the skin has peeled up from the bottom. These do look tasty.
IMHO, it's risky to do legs. I judged 5 or 6 boxes of them last season and only 2 were any good

Dwain

9-Excellent

Ed KCBS MCBJ

Wow, a very unique display! I like the different look. the legs have good color. Sauced very well and has set up where it won't be all sloppy.
Not a fan of the chickens legs, but what I like has no bearing here.
What you presented is excellent, I give a 9.

9 - Very nice looking chicken.

9 - I like the way the lettuce, being clean looking, accentuates the legs. The color is good and it appears there are grill marks on the meat. I feel this adds to the appearance.

Suggestion - maybe just a little less sauce

Glenn - KCBS CBJ CTC

9 - I like this. Something different other than thighs. Each leg has great color, just the right amount of sauce and very meaty looking.

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
