8- seemed to be sauced uneven with some light than others. Could be the photo

9 looks great to me!

Give this box a 9. Good arrangement and sizing and not too much sauce.

8 good box
Not a fan of g between pieces

Doug KCBS Master CBJ & CTC

Score = 8, color is uneven on the pieces.

Comment: The chicken is nestled down in the garnish making it hard to see. Garnish shouldn't hide the meat.

Blotchey irregular pieces that look like they could be raw with sauce on them. Chicken on right looks much nicer. Below average 5

Score: 8
Comments: Work on sizing/shape. This looks like chicken I would like to eat. Good box.

8. I love the color. It looks like chicken. And even though i'm not a fan of complete uniformity, these are just too odd sized for a 9.

7 - pale and uneven

8 - nice looking box of great looking chicken.

This box would have gotten a 9 from with some gentle, but minor, tweaking of the placement of the pieces. Some simply need to be shifted slighly to "square them up" with each other.

Score 8. Nice entry and the reason for the eight is the uneven sauce and color on the left and right side of the box.

Bob B - KCBS CBJ
4/14/2013 02:41:51 pm

Appearance - High 7. Overall good looking presentation. If sauce was a little more even, it would be an 8.

Frank KCBS MCBJ CTC

8. Possibly a 9 in person. Color is a little too far off among the pieces.

Suggestion: Pieces seem to sit a little low in the parsley.

Looks good but doesn't jump right out at you

8 Looks good, color a little uneven, sauce about right.

Nice box of chicken. Size and color are real good. Not over sauced and texture looks inviting.
Just something about placement that just doesn't stir me, but not enough to score down from excellent 9.

7.....Like the color, glaze and shine.

Put a bed of lettuce on the bottom and raise the meat up above the garnish so it can be seen by the judges. Leave the center pieces of parsley out for the same reason.

color between left 3 and right 3 is different, but that is probably the camera (I hope).
Looks excellent to me!

7 - glaze looks unevenly applied - thicker on left pieces than right pieces.

cbj/comp cook,8 sauce looks fairly uneven in this pic could be a 9 in person tho.

Jeff KCBS CBJ

score/ reason 7 uneven sizes, sauce uneven as well

8 Good looking box. If it were more evenly sauced it would make it more desirable. A little work on the trimming would help also.

Almost an 8. Very natural looking chicken, kudos for this. Maybe it's the flash, but the chicken on the left looks lighter than that on the right.

9 - The lighting may be the reason the chicken on the left side of the box looks lighter than those on the right. Overall, I like the look, especially the darker carmelization areas on the meat.

Suggestion - none

Randy Stewart KCBS & Utah BBQ Org CBJ

Score: 8 - Color is nice but a little uneven, arrangement is uniform, trim job is good, a little more sauce on the right side than on the left but overall a nice looking box.

Greg

8, good color, pieces are not uniform

Chaz D kcbs cbj
4/18/2013 05:04:51 am

8 The chicken looks ok but the color varies quite a bit between pieces. Also, the pieces are nestled down into the garnish a bit too much. Cooks need to remember that the garnish isn't judged so try not to put it too much to forefront and cover the meat that is being judged.

All registered judges are required add their email to the email form field. Emails are kept private and not published. If you do not list your email, your score/post will not appear on the site.

SCORE/REASONS FOR SCORE: Score this entry and give reasons for your score. DO NOT mention garnish or smoke rings in your reasons for scoring. We judge meat only.

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
