I don't like the way the lettuce and parsley mix, very random. chicken is all over the place in size and the sauce base on the photo looks thick. I would give a low 8, or high 7

8 - Good color. Size and shape differ on a few samples. Sauce is slightly uneven.

Score 8. With this chicken we get a choice, small, medium, and larger? The sauce also need to be applied evenly.

Score = 8; Sauce is too heavy and uneven. The pieces need to be trimmed to be a bit more uniform. Grill marks on pieces are uneven, some have them some don't.

score / reason 7 borderline 6 , sizes not uniform, over sauced and gloppy sauce, sauce drips on box making a sloppy appearance
5/11/2014 12:31:01 pm
7, pieces could be a little closer to the same size, sauce is a little bit globby and could be arranged a little neater, Not trying to be over critical but I cook myself and this is the kind of info I would like to hear myself and in my experience as a judge that's whats stopping this box from being a 9 in my opinion. looks delicious tho.

Score/Reasons = 7, too much sauce, pieces look to be different sizes.Sauce looks uneven

Sizes are out of whack. The reason for eqoal sized portions is to reflect a cooks knife and cooking skills. No it's not a rule, but you are asking me what I think about your presentation.

8 Sample sizes aren't uniform or neatly trimmed, perhaps a little too much sauce . they still look pretty tasty.

8 looks very yummy and i like the grill marks! A suggestion would be to try to trim the pieces a little more even.

Score/Reasons = 6, maybe a 7 in person - uneven trimming, sauce is unevenly applied
5/14/2014 05:51:34 am
The unevenness of the pieces and garnish are distracting. Nevertheless, the pieces appear well cooked and have good color/ An 8.

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.
The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.
In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).
Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.
Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.
Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
