BBQ Critics: Participants in COBJ MUST USE THE FORMAT BELOW WHEN SCORING BOXES or your post will not count toward your COBJ qualification.

EXAMPLE (not pertaining to the box live now):

Score/Reasons = 9, reasons such as nice meat looks moist, etc

Suggestions/Comments = Here you can add suggestions or comments that DID NOT AFFECT YOUR SCORE.

Scores will be published as a group when judging is done. Please compare your scores & comments with other judges. If you are way off from the average of the combined scores, take a second look and see if there is room for improvement. After reading comments/scores, ask yourself, "Did I score too high? Did I score too low?" Always look for ways to improve. :-)

Thanks!

9 nice job sizing
Could ease up on the dusting

GregG KCBS/MCBJ, CTC
7/26/2014 07:19:14 am

8 - Great looking chicken. Sauce appears to be a bit thick in the photo.
Possibly higher in person.

Sandi KCBS Master link

8 - Pieces not uniform in size - close but not quite there.

7-looks fair sauce too heavy

Erle Smith, KCBS CBJ & CTC
7/26/2014 09:32:45 am

9 - This is an excellent presentation. Color is perfect mahogany, pieces are uniform with a glossy finish. One of the better executed boxes for a while

Jeff - CBJ
7/26/2014 09:39:54 am

8. Sauce either looks heavy or covering up burnt skin

9 - Nice color, sauce is set, sizes close to same, neat presentation, and clean box. I want some!

John - KCBS / MCBJ, CTC, Rep; MBN & MIM Judge

Score/Reasons: 9 - Nicely trimmed, but not "cookie cutter" thighs. Good sauce application, nicely set up, not over-sauced. Good color & inviting.

Suggestions/Comments: Don't change a thing. Can I have the 7th piece?

Enrico, CBJ KCBS

9
Reason why is that all looks in orden, even and not oversauced.

Looks great to me. To lodge a complaint would simply be nitpicking.
Excellent 9 here.

9.......Nice sauce with a shine. Good color. Pieces all pretty uniform.

Any comments on how to improve would be nit picking

Score 8 just for the red color alone. I'm not sure if it's the picture, but it's a weird shade of red. The pirces are fairly even

jaja01 KCBS MCBJ CTC
7/27/2014 07:47:53 am

Score/Reasons = 8, the meat is quite red and the color is uneven. Could be a 9 in person.

Suggestions/Comments = Try to keep the meat a little darker mahogany to get away from the red and keep the color even

Vern - MCBJ/KCBS
7/27/2014 09:47:26 am

9 - Looks yummy but could have been an 8. Final dusting wasn't fully absorbed into the glaze which tells me the glaze set too long perhaps...

JEFF KCBS CBJ
7/27/2014 09:49:54 am

score / reason 8 good uniformity seems to look like it's over sauced, like to taste chicken not all sauce

Doug KCBS MCBJ & CTC
7/27/2014 09:52:20 am

Score = 9, a few issues, not enough to drop it down.

Mark MCBJ/KCBS
7/27/2014 11:18:17 am

8 sauce is too thick

Achu
7/27/2014 05:52:14 pm

Score/Reasons = 8, nice box, looks a little reddish, but it could be the camera.

Suggestions/Comments = Recommend a little more trimming top and bottom of entries or use garnish to cover the imperfections every so slightly. Perfectly legal.

9. Looks great!

Tom - CMJ/KCBS;CBJ/MBN,NCPC,NCBS,NCBBQA & comp cook
7/28/2014 01:39:09 am

Score/Reasons = 9, at first glance - which is pretty much what you get at the table. More detailed analysis results in probably an 8.

Suggestions/Comments = Sauce looks very heavy, but we are to judge as presented. Not evenly spread either.

Frank KCBS MCBJ CTC
7/28/2014 02:23:21 am

Score/Reasons = 8, It may just be the picture but the sauce appears too thick and heavy.

Suggestions/Comments =

9. Nice arrangement and layout. A pattern is evident with smaller ones on top row. Even color. Look moist.

9 Beautiful color, nicely uniform

Ike, KCBS CBJ
7/28/2014 04:15:13 am

Score = 8

Nice presentation. Pieces appear even in size but there may be too much sauce.

cogeo

Score = 9

The only suggestion (and this could be the pix) is to maybe spritz the chicken with juice to give a little sheen/shine to it. Otherwise, nice box!

Appearance 9- Thighs are all uniform, sauced properly, evenly spaced. Very nice looking chix box. Looks very appetizing.

I would rate this an 8. Good color , even and looks inviting

Mike, KCBS, GBA, CBJ

8- Looks good, uniformed pieces.

Comment: The deep red color looks a little off, not too bad just not what one might expect.

Jean

Leaning toward a 7. Appears to be too much sauce on several of the pieces. There is also some chunks of something in the sauce on a few pieces. Pieces are not uniform in size.

Score/Reasons = 7 Play with arrangement, shingling the chicken might have worked better. Nice color.

    EMAIL FIELD ON FORM:
You must be a "registered" BBQ Critic Online Judge in order to judge boxes on this site. Proof of registration is your email. All registered judges are required add their email to the email form field. Emails are kept private and not published. If you do not list your email, your score/post will not appear on the site.

SCORE/REASONS FOR SCORE: Score this entry and give reasons for your score. DO NOT mention garnish or smoke rings in your reasons for scoring. We judge meat only.

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
