CBJ-7

I would say a 7. There seems to be too much green and the meat is tucked away in all of the green. Maybe a higher score if it was on top of the green

I marked down for not being able to see enough of the chicken pieces because they are burried in the parsley. Otherwise they look great!

Nice entry. Exercised lots of care in presentation, and I'm sure it'll taste like care was used there as well.

Oh. . .on the 4 pieces of garnish in the middle, might use a little less parsley for better visibility of the meat, but doesn't hurt it's score though

I love the fact that there are 9, nearly identical portions.
Great color of the meat.

Good, solid 9. Must be small chickens...

Very pretty presentation, but it looks more like meatballs than BBQ chicken.

Also, looks more like a parsley box than chicken. Put the meat ON the garnish, not IN it.

I'd give it a strong 8. A little less garnish would have been better. I'm not judging the garnish, just that there is a little too much of it.

The greenery, which isn't judged, is actually preventing us from seeing the entry well. Also, tiny red balls of luv aren't as appetizing IMHO as chicken.

Are those chicken balls? A collection of oddly and irregularly shaped nuggets burried in parsley making close examination impossible. Nice even saucing. I want to like this box but something about it is just putting me off.

Doesn't look like chicken. Buried/ hidden in parsley. Nice even sauce.

8 - Chicken has a good color and shine to it. Looks really good. As said by some of the other comments, the garnish overshadows the meat a little. Think of the parsley/garnish as a frame for the picture, not part of the picture.

KCBS an 8
this is just overdone. Most of the meat is hidden.. Bobbing for sweet apples comes to mind.
Mc Chicken nuggets.

What I can see of the chicken gets a 7 or maybe an 8. It looks like the chicken is half burried under the garnish rather than being on top.

Score of 8 The chicken has once again been painted with too much sauce. The chicken looks like pieces of plastic and not chicken. The cooks need to remember judges are to judge the meat not the sauce and garnish.

9 - Excellent

The cook took time in placement and beautiful box. I would say a tad bit to much garnish, but still looks very appealing.

PIC is a little blurry and not a good close up shot so I can't see the details of the skin, but it looks good and presentable.

I give it an 8

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
