Chicken looks very appetizing, score 8

8

Good color, nicely sauced, well presented. The only knock is the uniformity of the pieces could be improved. Otherwise, great box.

Score 7 Pretty good, but nothing outstanding

Originally gave this an 8 - mostly because I've seen so many so similar and I'm expecting some "WOW" for the 9 - but this really does look awesome.... so I throw the 9

9 - Not oversauced, nice color, and looks like real chicken!!!

Money Box.. 9!

8 - The chicken is beautiful, but we're in the business of isolating the little things. In the case, the two pieces in front don't look like they belong to the rest. If it weren't for the fact that was the first thing I noticed, I might not have counted off for it. Other than that, I'm ready to eat.

8--looks like a nice box of yardbird--maybe 9 up close and personal

Perfect? Excellent? Yes! Trimmed up but still looks like chicken. This seems to have perfect light saucing. Other than on the front of the top left piece, the skin on this stuff all looks perfect. Fantastic color

Looks like chicken. There's a purple hue in the photo, but it appears to be reflected from something blue or purple behind the photographer. To me there's a nice reddish BBQ color about it, and a wonderful natural shine that says "take a bite".

8, pretty good, but the front two are way too big, nice color

Dick-CBJ
4/25/2012 03:09:44 am

Score 8. The only reason this entry was not a nine is the red color of the chicken (picture?) and the the pieces need to be more uniform in size to balance the box.

suggest more consistant trim. The meat is a bit overwhelmed by the garnish.

Keith - KCBS/CBJ
4/25/2012 03:53:25 am

8 - Great looking chicken but falls short of excellent due to some minor inconsistencies in size, shape, placement, skin trimming and sauce/seasoning. Nothing there is enough to dock more than a point.

Smitty - KCBS CBJ
4/25/2012 05:43:05 am

Solid 7. Above average, looks like chicken, could use a little evening up of size.

John - KCBS/MCBJ, CTC; MBN
4/25/2012 07:51:53 am

9 - The only critique I'd make is those beautiful pieces of chicken are of slightly different sizes...just like real chicken. I'm not about to count off for that. After all, and thankfully, it's not artificial-looking "cookie-cutter" bird from a muffin pan.

9 - Looks great. Nice job.

Score: 9 - Excellent color, placement, and uniformity of size. Even though 2 are a little smaller, this is an excellent looking box.

Looks pretty good, but skin should cover on top and bottom left. Does look like chicken, but too different in sizes.

8 - nice box, apetizing presentation, looks a little dry,

Score: 8

Nice solid box. Had to take off for the different sizes of chicken.

Comment: Love the color of your chicken and your garnish looks great.

I am fine with them all not being the same size. color is great and not too saucy. looks great

Robert - KCBS CBJ/Comp Cook

8 - The chicken color looks good and looks appetizing. Just need to pay a little more attention to trimming of the pieces.

- Try to make the chicken the center of attention in the box. The garnish is getting close to taking away the show. Also try and place the pieces closer together instead of having that uneven center line of garnish between the two rows.

    EMAIL FIELD ON FORM:
You must be a "registered" BBQ Critic Online Judge in order to judge boxes on this site. Proof of registration is your email. All registered judges are required add their email to the email form field. Emails are kept private and not published. If you do not list your email, your score/post will not appear on the site.

SCORE/REASONS FOR SCORE: Score this entry and give reasons for your score. DO NOT mention garnish or smoke rings in your reasons for scoring. We judge meat only.

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
