8 Looks very good. Looks moist, has some nice color and bark to meat May be just the way the slices are laying or camera angle but are all of them uniform in thickness. Some to left seem thicker then those to right.

9. Excellent looking display of pork. Meat has a nice bark and the pork looks juicy.

My compliments to the cooking team!

8 - pulled portion of meat looks a little sloppy.

Some additional garnish would have 'tightened' the box up. The pulled portion of the meat looks like fairly large pieces so I would try lining them up in the same direction. Otherwise the meat looks like it was cooked well.

8 - pulled pieces could be better organized.

Score: 9 Good looking meat. It's full of bark (or flavor to most) and its moist looking without being greasy. Nice work. Kudos for not saucing it. The last 3 comps I've dont this year featured a lot of sauced pork and if thats the cooks choice so be it but its a trend I'm not fond of.

Score/Reasons = 9, Looks moist and appetizing to me! I like having two "types" of pork in the box (not required, but it helps the appearance slightly). Bark looks good without being black.

Suggestions/Comments = Seperate some of the pulled pile apart so that there is some with bark and some without wouldn't hurt to help the appearance. We are to judge what is presented, but this is just a suggestion to pull in a few of those judges that want to see what isn't there.

Score/Reasons = 9, Meat looks great. Lightly sauced and good color.

Suggestions/Comments = Even up the MM slices and consider moving to the front of the box. Tighten up the garnish for a neater presentation.

9..Nice box of pork. Meat looks moist. Good bark. Even cuts on the money muscle. Nice job.

Suggestions: Be a little more attentive to the garnish. The back side of the box looks a little ragged.

Great looking box here. Nice color, looks moist and inviting.
Can't wait to grab one of those slices and the pulled chunks are nice and manly sized.
Excellent 9.

Score/Reasons: 8 - Nice looking box of pork. Slices appear juicy & appealing. Pile in front is a bit of disarray.

Suggestions/Comments: Tidy up the pile of pork a bit and it could be an easy 9 from me.

Score/Reasons = 9 - I like the arrangement with the barky, tasty-looking pulled up front and the neatly stacked MM in back.

Suggestions/Comments = 7 slices means the table captain will be grateful to you. I'd be optimistic that excellence has been achieved here in more than just appearance.

Score / Reasons - 8, The meat looks OK. Some of the pulled meat has blackened parts of the meat which takes away from the appearance. Also, the money muscle is unevenly cut.

Suggestions / Comments = Try not to include the blackened parts of the meat and make sure all cut meat is cut evenly.

score = 9, meat looks moist and tasty
comments = it's just the way I like it - not over-sauced

Pete - KCBS
5/15/2013 11:08:53 am

Score - 8 - good looking pork right there, nice mix of bark with the meat and generous on the money muscle.

Comments - photo is a little fuzzy, hard to tell whether the shine on the meat is just right or too much. If the sample leaves a pool of grease on the KCBS plate that's a sign the meat could be on the soggy side.

Score/Reason = 7, looks pretty good but nothing special.

Suggestions/Comments = More bark in the pulled/chunks, and uniform thickness of the slices, may make it look better.

8, could go 9 but a little thrown together. Looks moist, nice glaze on slices.

SCORE/REASONS FOR SCORE: Score this entry and give reasons for your score. DO NOT mention garnish or smoke rings in your reasons for scoring. We judge meat only.

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
