score - 9 - beautiful box. Nothing more need saying

Score = 9.

Layout is good, slices are even and everything has just enough sauce. Good job!

Score 9
The sliced pieces look delicious. The bark on the outside looks great. The pulled section looks moist & shiny

Larry MCBJ
12/11/2013 12:19:23 am

8 - Meat is off-center and tighten-up the pulled.

Jim H - CBJ SBN/KCBS
12/11/2013 12:42:00 am

Score/Reason = 9/Meat looks moist and delicious;

Suggestions/comments = The medallions at the top are a little slanted and not "even" with the pulled, which could cause some judges to mark down.

Mike Cannon
12/11/2013 12:43:48 am

8 - pulled could be a little neater

Lorne Rae
12/11/2013 01:18:59 am

8. Good color, looks moist, nice layout. Space between slices and pulled not consistent.

George
12/11/2013 01:26:14 am

8 - Good looking box, although I'd like to see some bark on the pulled pork.

9 - excellent! I would suggest removing the one piece with bark in the pulled pork or have more to balance it out.

Score 9. This is a nice looking entry. It is not over sauced and the meat appears moist. I also appreciate the pulled (I am not a fan of chopped) and the great looking money muscle.

Score = 9 Great looking pork box

9....Great Money Muscle. Nice color and evenly sliced. Nice glaze.
Pulled looks moist.

Remove the one piece of bark in the pulled. It's distracting.

Score/Reasons = 9. Nice looking meat with a light to medium glaze.

Suggestions/Comments = No real defects. Maybe straighten out the MM and add more bark to the puled/chunks.

9 nice looking box

8, close to a 9 I feel the parsley come be picked up a little. Also maybe a little more sauce than I like.

8 maybe 9 looks nice

9-Great looking pork entry! Appears moist, looks appetizing.

9 - Great looking presentation

Moonpie
12/13/2013 12:57:35 am

9... looks moist. I like seeing a variety of meat cut.

Comment: In appearance I always like multiple ways of presentation with different cuts etc... however, when it comes to taste, if they are not both great don't do it. Always go with your best, if the other isn't up to it, it will bring down the score.

Score/Reasons = 8 Good looking box, would like to see some bark.

Score/Reasons = 8 - Box looks good. Only thing is the meat is a little over glazed. Meat in not supposed be shiny.

Suggestions/Comments = Just a little less sauce / glaze would take care of what I see as a small problem.

I would score this box an 8. Looks very tasty!
Suggestion: try to get a little more bark in your box.

Matt KCBS CBJ

Score/Reasons = 9, meat looks great! Good work!

Suggestions/Comments = This didn't affect my score, obviously, but I would make sure the parsley is even all around the edges, etc. That's all I have to offer... looks great!

Jeff KCBS CBJ

score/reason 7 money muscle looks fantastic,i wanna lick the screen. the pulled looks light in color but looks greasy and very unappealing

Jeff T KCBS/CBJ
12/15/2013 12:34:59 am

Score 9. Both meat samples look moist and ready to eat. Slices could be square to the top of the box (they are laying at an angle). The pulled could benefit from a little more bark mingled in. The one chunk of bark in the center of the pile looks "lost".

Tina C KCBS CBJ
12/16/2013 08:05:49 am

8 looks moist but some more care could have been taken in spacing and placement of slices
Also 1 small bark piece in your pulled draws the eye to the one dark spot, perhaps omit that

Matt P.
12/16/2013 12:46:44 pm

Score/Reasons = 9, meat looks moist and has good color, sauce is evenly applied and not too heavy.

Suggestions/Comments = Some bark chunks would be nice to include and would probably help the taste score.

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
