I would score this box a 7 because the "meat" appears above average. Unfortunately the box appears thrown together and if there was any semblance of professional presentation I would have easily given the 8. I need more than chunks to give a 9.

No score due to poor lighting. Again, looks like it was taken under a nightlight.

7 looks pretty random, appears dry, not particularly appetizing

The picture color seems to have a pink tint to it making it hard to determine colors. I give it a 7. Kind of looks undercooked with the cut chunks. Tough to score with a bad photo though.

I like the cut/pulled combination of this presentation.

I also like that there's a hint of sauce on the outer edge you can see but not a brushed on sauce after the carve.

9 - I want to taste. (It kinda looks like tenderloin with a smoke ring all around the meat. I'd have to see it in person)

Score 9. Nice box and I appreciate the fact that the meat is not buried in sauce. Slightly more color from the outside of the roast mixed in would help also.

cbj/comp cook,8 maybe a 9 if i could see it in person,it looks a little dry to me and the color is messed up because of the lighting.

9,this really looks good, pass it around and lets start judging, i like the big chunks, nicely place in the box..

8 but probably 9 in person
Too bad the picture is tinted off color. Probably the sunlight coming through the competitors sun shade/tent.
That being said, I really like this stuff. Good smoke ring, looks moist, bark looks superb. The little round slice chunks with bark look like morsels of pork heaven.
No sauce and I'll bet this team is really confident in the flavor of their pork. Wish I could judge this today.

What the heck, 8 was due to bad picture color and that would be wrong of me. 9 Gimme some.

Too bad the photo is so pink! Looks pretty good except the color. Looks moist and pretty appetizing to me!

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
