7--weird different color, just chunks? different sizes, might taste good but just seems out of the norm

Score: 8 - The angle of this photo makes it hard to see much of the meat. Color looks very good, bark looks tastey with maybe a little too much sauce, placement in the box is a little unorganized from what I can tell but is still inviting. Overall a nice looking box but just shy of a 9.

Glad this picture enlarged but it's still hard to judge. Haphazard arrangement but the meat looks good. Some of the bark looks amazing, almost like cracklin skin and the sauce looks tasty.
Suggestion: More meat, less garnish. Way too much garnish here. Even though we shouldn't judge garnish, I was told in judging class that we could deduct points for too much of it

Tough picture to judge from.
Appears to be a lot of sauce, maybe it's bark.
Appears to be chopped.
Hard call 7.. maybe 8 or 9 with a better picture.

Meat looks interesting but sauce on the forefront hunk is to much.. All the meat is sinking in the quicksand that is the garnish.

9 - Now that's what I'm talkin about. Nice big chunks.

s/r 7, what is the sauce coveing up?

8 - Very Good

The photo angle makes this one hard to judge. Meat looks appetizing, but seems a little too "saucey" and not enough "barky."

Garnish is exceptional.

Looks to be to much sauce. Dont like that its in a big pile. Cannot see the flesh of your meat.

Comments: Your garnish looks clean and green but over takes your meat. It appears you spent to much time on making garnish look good. I would like to see a little better presentation of meat and maybe more of it.

Too much sauce, but the meat does look quite appetizing just the same. Just let me grab that chunk up there on the right corner...... :)

KCSB Cook- 7 fill the box with meat. I could see this box easily as a 9 with sliced money muscle presented with the chunks. You obviously have the skill based on the presentation.

I like the look of the box in general but the meat looks like it was placed without any organization or purpose.

Another box where I just can't tell due to the angle, but judging what I can see looks moist and tasty, with perhaps a bit too much sauce. Arrangement doesn't wow me.

Ease up on the sauce to allow bark to shine through.

Table captain: please hold the box lower and tilt it a bit so we can see the entire entry...thank you.

7 - I know times is hard, but put some pork in the box. Seriously, not symetrical, not seeing the meat. More green than lean.

Looks like we just set something in a box... Cant tell that it's meat, or what type of meat it is. I'm hoping it'll taste good, but honestly we're not selling it well at all.

TOO MUCH Sauce! Looks good, but not not great.

Would give this a 6; meat looks average to me, looks like alot of sauce, can't really see the meat that well, and there is more green in the box than meat. Would cut back on the sauce a little, display the meat a little bit more...

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
