seven--pork looks good

seems to be a trend to make boxes more like a fine dining plate rather then a 9x9 of bbq-----bbq is losing

9, Do you ship?? I can tell by the look that this is going to taste good. As a chef (for almost 15 years) I always tell folks, you taste with your eyes before it ever touches your tongue. If it doesn't look good, your mind already says it isn't going to taste good! With this picture, my mind is already looking forward to a big taste!

Looks excellent!!! Maybe a bit too much sauce (I love the pork flavor and hope that it still shines through), but this looks VERY appetizing! I love the money muscle slices with the pulled along side. Nice garnish to frame the meat too.

8, overall good, slices are a little thick and too much sauce. On the chuncks the sauce is uneven. Meat looks moist.

7 - it looks unevenly sauced and some meat looks mushy

The meat looks nice. Good color, nice bark. However, the arrangement is actually distracting and takes away from the overall appeal. That with uneven saucing...

9 !!!! That's a winner!!!

Score: 9 - Very different box arrangement and very appealing meat. Bark and sauce on money muscle looks very good. Pieces are cut evenly and arranged very well. Nice box.

Good solid 8, maybe a 9 in person. Good looking pork box. The only suggestion I'd have is to leave that front piece of slices out so the judge can see the whole slice of meat.

Score: 8

Looks to be a touch to much sauce on the pulled pork.

Suggestion: Love the layout but the pulled looks too thick. I would like it a little thinner since you are have slices. To me the slices and pulled look to be same thickness.

Nice layout...everything pops. Good plugs, nice slices and good bark.

The negative...too much sauce. Dial that back a bit and it's a 9.

The meat looks good, but it looks like it came from filet'd "Golden Snitches" from playing Quiddich.

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
