I would score these ribs an 8, possibly a 9 in person. Ribs look great but possibly a little over done?

I'd give this a 9 at first glance, but looking back at it. I would probably start to drop points because I cannot make out six defined pieces. I can only make out 3 cuts on the meat. I hope that's due to the picture. Upon further study, I can finaly make out two more subtle cuts. Looks good. I'll stick with a 9.

Ribs look dry. I would have been curious to find out if every judge got a piece. Those cuts do not look as if they were all the way through

8 - Nice looking ribs.

Oh Baby, this box ain't going nowhere but right in front of me. To hell with you other judges!
Great color, nice even straight cuts, light sauce, set on the grill .
So confident you just plopped a whole slab section in the box.
If I could give more than 9, I would.

6. The two ribs on the right look overcooked and not appealing.

Ribs look dry. Uneven sauce. Nicely cut. Presentation would improve if the ribs were higher in the box. Need a little shine....7

8 Very nice, uniform cuts, I'm okay with size variation, need to pick up one of these.

Score 8 Not afraid to pull 4 straight.

Two ribs on the right look a little dark and a little dry. Also they are sitting down in the box which makes it hard to see all of them. I'd give this box a 7.

An 8. Good layout ,size and knife skills but color uneven and looks somewhat dry.

9 - as long as that white spot up on the upper left is just the light. Fine looking box o' ribs.

I give the box a 6.

Meat has "old man skin" and portions look darker than the other, cuts are fine, but layout needs help.

9 - Nice color. No sauce on the last 2 ribs on the right could be the angle so the doubt goes to the cook.

Score 7. Either the sauce is burnt or the ribs are. My first thought is the ribs are burnt and overcooked. Not appealing. Also, judges do not judge the garnish (except for legality) but the neatness of the box will be judged. With this in mind I would suggest the cook take another look at this box. I believe a little more effort assembling this box is required.

Look like great ribs. 8. I'd be a little concerned that the ribs seem to sink down into the garnish and the upper right corner has garnish covering the ribs.

nine--simply good

8 - Looks good but no "pop".Some of them look a little on the dry side

A 7.
I had to look 3 times to make sure there were 6 pieces in the box.
From the left, ribs 2, 3, and 4 look like they are all one piece. 5 and 6 look like they are still attached at the bottom.
5 and 6 look really dry.
All 6 look overcooked, dark and dry.
I just don't see anything that jumps out at me and says, "Eat me NOW".

All registered judges are required add their email to the email form field. Emails are kept private and not published. If you do not list your email, your score/post will not appear on the site.

SCORE/REASONS FOR SCORE: Score this entry and give reasons for your score. DO NOT mention garnish or smoke rings in your reasons for scoring. We judge meat only.

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
