8 - nice box. It's also nice to see a rib that's not a candy stick coated with thick gloppy sauce.

9 - All look from the same rack. Great job!!!! I'm hungry.

Score 9. The ribs look great, but I almost scored this box an 8 just because it looked so crowded. I would suggest this cook consider making two rows and stacking the ribs.

Solid 8, possibly 9 in person.

9 - The ribs look great but I'm not sure why they are placed at an angle! I know we're supposed to judge the meat and not other "stuff," but the angle is disconcerting. I would recommend a different placement to this cooker.

Nice rack of ribs all in a roll. Lightly sauced and carmelized...9

Ribs look tasty. Funny alignment in the box but still look good. Score them an 8, possibly a 9 in person.

8
Looks good except looks like someone couldn't decide where to cut them

7; saucing looks good (makes the ribs look like RIBS!) but uneven lengths, inability to see the meat (other than the bark) and partial coverage by parsley keeps me from raising the score.

8 Nice uniform cuts, even color appearance, sauce just right.

Score: 9
Good lookin' ribs! Not oversauced; they look juicy and succulent.

Score 8 A little something more would have moved this to a 9. A couple more ribs, being able to view from the side, it is hard to say what that additional something is, but just an additional something that takes it over the top.

Some ragged cuts here and there.
The dark dry looking tops leave me to think they might be dry, they might not be but my eyes are telling my head it could be so.
Try to moisten them with a glaze or a spritz.
I'm still interested in trying them.

The color on the ribs is a little uneven. I'd give this box an 8.

An 8. Even color, look moist, good knife skills but left rib much shorter.

I would give this one a 7 hard to tell if the Ribs are juicy and tender

Score: 7

Nice and meaty ribs. Scored you a 7 but you are on verge of 8 from me. Biggest thing I see is you have ran out of room. I also think one of the judges are going to score you lower on taste because of the first rib on the left. Since you ran out of room that rib looks to be almost hanging out of box and close to where the box closes. By the time that judge gets that rib most likely its going to be cooler than the rest. Judges complain about cold ribs.

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
