Well, there's a bloody 9!
Thick, juicy, awesome color, not oversauced. I really like the layout both for this forum and also if judging in person. Can see the sides and tops and these are big enough and close enough together that they'd probably still be warm by the time we got to taste 'em. can't wait to see if anybody here nitpicks these. This rib box is awesome. Kudos to the team!

BBQ editor, Is there anyway you can tell us what these scored in the event?

8. Good looking rib box.

Score: 9 - I like this box. Ribs are evenly cut, uniform in color and shine, look juicy, and are big and meaty. Bark makes me want to tear into these ribs. Nice work.

My first glance is an 8; these are very meaty, color is good; the rib on the left is very curved, I would recommend to attempt to get the same size ribs in the box, it just has a more appeasing appearance.

Hearty size with perfect colors for me.
I will let the tasting decide if it is dry or not.

Score: 7

Ribs not evenly cut and some are more curved than others. Try to use more uniform size of ribs. Also they look (could be lighting of pic) touch to much sauce in places and charred in spots.

I'd give it a 9. Well done!

eight--good box(not great) with big meaty ribs

Great color, moderate amount of glaze, nice look to the meat side

8 (Very Good)

IF organized and presented in some manner these would have been and easy 9

Very appetizing. A little organization and symetrical meat placement would earn you a 9 from me.

Nice box! Because there's some sloppy sauce and the ribs aren't entirely uniform I'd have to give it a high 8. Those ribs really need to be eaten!

Score 9. Nice box, excellent cut, good color on both the top and also the actual meat. I would love to get this box and I hope they taste as good as they look.

6, nothing special, uneven cuts, too much sauce, especially on the second rib

7 Interesting arrangement. A little sauce smear on the top right rib.
Color nice, but they don't look very tender. Cuts seem random.

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
