The white spec and the black spec say "flaw" to me, and decrease how appetizing these are

8, They do look really good. Now for the chops. I like the way you distracted by putting the 3 best ribs on top, covering the 4 thinner ribs. I probably would have added some garnish to the lower 1/4 of the box to accent the color of those ribs. I would like to taste, I'm one of "those" judges that sits on the end of the table and I like to get my sample from what is being hidden. Strong work, I like it.

definitely off center (should be more toward the top of the box to have the garnish "frame" the ribs), Sauce is not spread evenly, not sure if that white spot on the right rib is glare or something foreign, they look dry to me even with the sauce

Not horrible by any stretch. Nice color but tough to tell in this pic. Ends look very dark.

8 - The white UFO and hangnail/spacing on the Right rib detracts from the score. However, gorgeous color and not oversauced. I want one!!!

Score: 7 - Ribs look okay but are not evenly cut or placed in the box. Color doesn't look even, pieces on the bottom look darker (could be the photo). An average box for me.

6. Average. Looks dull and dry, especially the bottom row. Unevenly cut rib widths. The 3 on top are as wide as the 4 on the bottom. There is some sauce on the top 3 that I can see, but it is unevenly applied.

Ribs are different size and cut unevenly. One of the bones is exposed where the other ribs it is not.

Comments: Great color and garnish looks great.

Good color, fair sauce application, cuts are a bit uneven.

I do not like layouts that hide the product. I can't see the bottom bones...are those ribs terrible or spectacular? The light colored UFO on the top-right rob is bugging me.

    Purpose

    The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

    The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

    In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

    Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

    Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.
