Looks good. I would look forward to trying it. 9 would be my score.

7 at best. The front row of meat looks dry. The back part looks thrown together. A little extra care would have gone a long way to improve my score.

Looks good

7 or 8, meat looks very pale, the slices look like they should need bark or sauce. some of the chuncks have bark, others do not.

Looks pretty good, but lacks that WOW factor for me. MM is sliced with too different (and two different) sizes of slices - distracting. Looks plenty moist.

9. Some chunks are smaller in size and maybe arranged better would look better, but doesn't detract enough to make it an 8.

Looks very greasy, shouldnt have dipped it in the Pork Aujus.

Score 9 Lots of meat and I would like to try it.

8 - The chunked meat at the top looks great, but the slices not as appetizing. If the slices were not in this box and the rest of the space was filled with the chunked meat, this box would have easily been a 9.

looks anemic to me

I give the box a 8.

Very nice looking box! Although the top portion is pulled it looks even and presentable.

I do like the medallions on the bottom, but the right side is a bit small and not proportional to the left so I took off a point.

8 - This box would rate a nine if a little more care were paid to getting the good looking stuff in there and by avoiding that odd looking fusing of two different cuts on the slices.

7= above average

Whatever that is on the bottom please don't do that again...I need more bark and color

The chucks look pretty good excepte for the grey slime in the middle right and middle left. Different size medalions on the M/M row. Probably from two different muscles. Would have liked to see more bark. 7

8 that bottom row is hurting this box

7 just an average box

7 borderline 8. Looks nice, but no real "wow" factor pushing it higher for me.

Chunks look great. Sliced color looks odd...no contrast between bark and internal meat.

Nice looking pork box. I would give this an 8. The only thing that bothers me is the money muscle at the bottom looks a little bare or out of place next to the chunks with the bark mixed in. Might have been nice to fan the slices out a bit.

I'm not deducting for the unmatched sizing of the pieces in front. All the stuff in the back looks super. Moist with awesome bark and nicely rendered fat. have to assume that the muscle is juicy too.
Could be an 8 in person but a 9 from what I see here

Very nice. 9

I was initially thinking the portion allotment on the money muscle might leave me (as a judge) with a small piece, but I realized in a competition I really wouldn't be that picky.

Super nice looking meat!

Score 9. This is one fine example of a excellent entry. The meat is moist. The meat hasn't been covered with a lot of sauce. If I was served this in a restaurant I would immediately compliment the server. I hope this cook is at a contest which I am judging SOON.

FROSTBUSTER BBQ JUDGES "Appearance" Scores:8,9,9,9,9,9

Looks like the BBQ Critic judges were more divided on this box than the Frostbuster judges. Seems like that bottom row really stood out with uneven cuts. This box looked better in person than in the photo.

    Purpose

The purpose of BBQ Critic's JudgeMyBox section is to provide feedback to competition cooks. Certified BBQ Judges who visit this site will score the photo of a contest box (using KCBS judging rules) and may optionally leave a comment explaining their score.

The idea is to allow the cook to get inside the mind of a judge (judges do have varying opinions) so they can use this information to help improve scores on APPEARANCE.

In turn, the BBQ Critic editorial team will provide feedback on some judge scores and commentary  that stray from the KCBS rules. This will help our judges become better judges and keeps everyone on the same page. Judges may also encounter some fun challenges at times (click for example).

Comments about boxes or judges scores may be discussed in our online FORUM in a respectful manner.

Please be mindful that scoring photo boxes may not be as accurate as scoring the box in person. Lighting, glare, angles, etc may affect the overall score. Judges also have more time to stare at your box, so that means we may get very detailed about the good and the bad.

Have fun, judges! Oh, and cooks? Please send us your boxes. We love to judge Q here at BBQ Critic. ;-)
